Week 2 NFL Power Rankings: St. Louis Rams Hang Inside ESPN Top 20

The St. Louis Rams‘ ugly second half against the Philadelphia Eagles might have been expected, but ESPN’s Week 2 NFL Power Rankings ding them for it anyway—Mike Sando and company dropped them from 17th in the preseason to 20th overall, which puts them behind a genuine NFC West team for the first time in recent power rankings memory. (The Arizona Cardinals, who are, in the post-Kevin-Kolb era, finally possessed of a competent quarterback, have moved all the way to sixteenth.)

That’s not great news, but given the Rams’ tough schedule it’s going to be impossible to send them too far down the list in the early going. They might not look good, but it’s going to be hard to understand just how much of that struggling is due to the teams they’re playing compared to, say, their total lack of wide receivers.
