Tim Tebow Rapidly Becoming The Colby Rasmus Of The Denver Broncos
This might be hard for a lot of people to do, but I feel bad for Josh McDaniels’s lost pet project—Tim Tebow is so unpopular with the new Denver Broncos that an Unnamed Source has just called him the would-be fourth-string quarterback. Tebow schadenfreude is at an all-time high, as you might imagine, but I have to ask: Am I the only one who remembers him playing pretty well for a rookie last year?
He went 41-for-82, so if you’re looking to run an offense based around pinpoint accuracy and short routes Tebow’s loopy throwing motion is not going to be your weapon of choice. But he also averaged 8.0 yards per attempt, seventh in the NFL among all quarterbacks with at least a game’s worth of pass attempts. While he was at it, he rushed for 227 yards on 43 attempts and tied Steven Jackson with six rushing touchdowns. By most any statistical measurement he was, somehow, an above-average quarterback in his limited opportunities there.
If I’ve got this guy on my team, and he’s also one of the most popular, marketable football players on earth, I don’t badmouth him to reporters, but I guess that’s why I’m not employed by a football team. In his place: Brady Quinn, who was a disaster in 2009 and has a completion percentage exactly two points higher than Tebow’s, and Kyle Orton, who was Kyle Orton prior to drinking Josh McDaniels’s magic potion. (I hope he saved some for Sam Bradford.)
Am I the only person confused by all this? Besides Tim Tebow, I mean?
