Nick Foles Reportedly Skipped LA Rams OTAs After Team Drafted Jared Goff
It seems not everyone in the Los Angeles Rams organization is pleased the franchise drafted Jared Goff.
According to Jim Trotter of ESPN.com, Rams quarterback Nick Foles has skipped organized team activities and not taken part in any offseason programs since Los Angeles took the Cal quarterback with the top selection in this year’s NFL draft on April 28. Trotter noted Foles was “a regular when offseason workouts began April 18.”
“I’ve had conversations with Nick; we’re on the same page, and we’re trying to work things out,” said head coach Jeff Fisher on Wednesday, per Patrick Clayborn of NFL Network. “That’s all I can say.”
Just around 15 months ago, the Rams and Philadelphia Eagles swapped quarterbacks. Los Angeles sent former No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford to the Eagles in exchange for Foles, who was one year removed from making the Pro Bowl and leading Philadelphia to an NFC East title.
But the marriage between Foles and the Rams did not result in success in 2015. The team (then in St. Louis) went 4-7 with Foles starting. The quarterback threw seven touchdowns to 10 interceptions, and Coach Fisher benched him in favor of Case Keenum on Nov. 16.
The Rams gave Foles a two-year contract extension in August worth $24.5 million, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com.
OTAs are voluntary workouts, so Foles is not obligated to show up if he doesn’t want to. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if this is a sign of things to come. The Rams sent two first-round picks, two second-rounders and two third-rounders to the Tennessee Titans to get be able to draft Goff. That made it clear L.A. was going all-in on Goff—not Foles—being the franchise’s future.
