NFL Mock Draft 2013: Rams double-dip on offense in the 1st round

The St. Louis Rams used to be the Greatest Show on Turf. Now they’d just be lucky to give away tickets for two pence. Of course, St. Louis did start to turn things around in 2012 and a stellar-looking defense could have the Rams competing in the NFC West again in 2013. Even better that they have the Redskins 1st round pick along with their own to hopefully turn around an offense 25th in scoring last season. So would they be willing to use both of their picks on that side of the ball?

It’s not as though the Rams have been shy about spending draft picks on offense in recent years. Sam Bradford, Isaiah Pead, Chris Givens, Rodger Saffold, Jason Smith, and Brian Quick just to name a few. And yet they still struggle to score points. How could they change that this year? Well, if guard Chance Warmack falls to the Rams with the 16th pick, that would be a start. Walter Football’s latest mock draft projects it to happen:

The Rams desperately need to upgrade their offensive front. Jeff Fisher played against the Texans twice per year when he was with Tennessee, and he watched Houston completely ruin David Carr’s career by not building a competent offensive line around him. He won’t want to make the same mistake with Sam Bradford.

Walter continues the St. Louis run on offense by adding receiver Cordarrelle Patterson at pick 22:

I don’t think the Rams will necessarily be targeting a receiver in the first round because they’re still developing Brian Quick, but they will absolutely consider Patterson if he’s available at No. 22 because he’s arguably the top player on the board. It’s pretty obvious that Jeff Fisher needs to find receiving help for Sam Bradford.

Patterson could be a steal at 22, plus Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson are both currently free agents. There’s no guarantee that St. Louis won’t have just Quick and Givens by the time April rolls around and that’s simply not enough for Bradford.

By the way, SBNation’s Dan Kadar did his mock on Monday. His picks? Warmack and Patterson.
