NFL Cuts 2011, St. Louis Rams Roster: Upcoming Cuts Could Include Danario Alexander

Danario Alexander could be on the bubble as 2011 NFL cuts continue for the St. Louis Rams.

With the deadline for reducing their roster to 53 men rapidly approaching, the St. Louis Rams have one marquee decision left to make: Who will be Sam Bradford‘s wide receivers? With some of the early cut list candidates putting together strong preseasons, the Rams find themselves with no-place to hide the enigmatic Danario Alexander as the season looms.

Donnie Avery and Brandon Gibson were candidates in the press’s earliest speculation about the cuts, for various reasons; Avery missed the first game of the preseason with lingering knee problems and hadn’t played in a full year, while Gibson found himself without supporters after a solid but unspectacular year as one of the Rams’ only consistent options. But Alexander’s spotty preseason–a product of inconsistent play and his impossibly fragile knee–have left him on a cut list bubble created by the Rams’ decisions to sign veteran Mike Sims-Walker and draft rookies Greg Salas and Austin Pettis, not to mention new tight end Lance Kendricks. Current speculation has Alexander and similarly ineffable sophomore Mardy Gilyard on the edge of a receiving corps that now runs seven deep.
