MVC Tournament 2013 results and bracket: Drake, Missouri State advance to second round
The first two games of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament took place on Thursday, with the Drake Bulldogs and the Missouri State Bears advancing to the next round.
Drake won the tournament opener, easily dispatching the Bradley Braves 81-66. Drake guard Chris Hines led all scorers with 16 points, sinking four of his seven three point attempts. The Bulldogs received some big scoring from their bench, as Joey King and Gary Ricks Jr. combined to score 29 points off the bench for Drake. Jake Eastman and Will Egolf scored 15 points apiece for Bradley.
Drake advances to face No.1 seed Creighton Bluejays. The two teams split the season series this year, with each team winning on their home floor. The game will tip-off on Friday at Noon CT.
Missouri State won the second Thursday game, defeating the Southern Illinois Salukis 61-53. The Bears jumped out to a ten point halftime lead over the Salukis, and did not look back for the rest of the game.
Missouri State will move on to face the Wichita State Shockers in the second round. Wichita State won both meetings during the regular season against Missouri State. That game will tip off on Friday at 6:00 p.m. CT.
