Danny Amendola, finally healthy, should get plenty of targets vs. Buccaneers

The last three games for which Danny Amendola has been even mostly healthy, the St. Louis Rams have targeted him 12, 11, and 12 times. Aside from two abbreviated games against the Arizona Cardinals, he’s been targeted at least nine times in every game he’s played, topped by his 15-catch, 16-target performance in Week 2. He’s not even on the injury report this week, for once, so all of this is just a way to say that yes, he’ll probably get a ton of looks against a struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers pass defense on Sunday.

As frustrating as his year has been, Amendola’s been effective enough when he has played that he’s within a solid game of setting a new career high in receiving yards, despite having appeared in just 10 games this year. (That might be as much an indictment of his 85-catch, 689-yard 2010 season as it is a commendation of his 2012 season, but Rams fans can’t be picky about wide receivers, at this point.)

He might not be as exciting as Chris Givens, or as crucial to the Rams’ future as Brian Quick, but the Rams’ insistence on passing to Amendola has survived two injuries and Givens’s set of breakout games, so you might as well enjoy it while it keeps lasting.
