Alex Smith ‘unlikely’ to be cut by 49ers, coach says

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Friday it’s “unlikely” QB Alex Smith will be released this offseason, but he and the team seemingly are angling hard to trade the former starter.
