St. Louis Cardinals’ 2013 Opening Day game to air on ESPN2
The St. Louis Cardinals open the 2013 season on April 1 on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN 2, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch. First pitch is set for 9:10 p.m. CT.
The Cardinals fought into the 2012 postseason by winning the National League Wild Card game over the Atlanta Braves and then dispatched the 98-win Washington Nationals in five games in the NLDS. St. Louis then held a 3-1 series lead over the San Francisco Giants in the Championship Series before falling silent at the plate and losing the final three games and the series.
St. Louis has been relatively quiet over the off-season and are likely to head into spring training with largely the same roster that made it to the NLCS in 2012. The Cardinals signed Ty Wiggington in the off-season and there have been discussions of moving Matt Carpenter to second base.
The 2013 season opens with a six-game road trip to Arizona and a return to San Francisco, before the home opener in St. Louis on April 8 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
