Sheldon Richardson was already highly touted heading into the combine. While he didn’t need a standout performance, he needed to do well enough to justify his status as a potential first-round pick. Richardson did just that, performing admirably in all four events he participated in. Richardson ran a 5.02-second 40-yard dash to go along with a 32-inch vertical jump. He also showed off plenty of strength with 30 bench press reps.
While Richardson did well across the board, it was another Tiger who turned heads with his performance. Linebacker Zaviar Gooden may have been the most impressive player at the combine as he finished at, or near, the top in several events. Gooden ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash, the fastest of all linebackers. He also showed impressive strength by completing 27 reps on the bench press. Overall, Gooden proved to be one of the best athletes at the combine and likely boosted his draft stock.
Former Missouri wide receiver T.J. Moe didn’t fare as well as Gooden and Richardson. Moe measured at 5’11, but ran the slowest 40-yard dash time among wide receivers at 4.74. While Moe didn’t post a great 40 time, he did perform well in the short-area quickness drills, turning in excellent times in the three-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle and 60-yard shuttle.
Missouri Western defensive end David Bass also participated in the combine. His 4.84-second 40-yard dash was a solid time for a player his size, and his 4.33-second 20-yard short shuttle was the fourth-best time among all defensive linemen.
